What We Help With

What sex therapy can help with

Psychosexual therapy, often simply called sex therapy, is a specialist form of talking therapy focused on sexual health, intimacy and the relational side of sexual experience. It draws on how our thoughts, feelings, history, relationships and physical experience all interact, and addresses difficulties in a holistic, compassionate and evidence-based way.

It is not sex education, and it never involves any physical examination or contact. Sessions take place in exactly the same way as any other talking therapy: a private conversation, in a calm room or online, between you and your therapist. It's suitable for individuals and couples, of any gender, sexuality or relationship structure.

Sexual function

Difficulties with desire, arousal, orgasm or erection are common, and can affect anyone at any stage of life. See our dedicated pages on low desire and mismatched libido, painful sex and vaginismus, and erectile dysfunction and performance anxiety.

Sexual trauma and its effects

Past experiences of sexual abuse, assault or coercion can shape how we feel about sex, intimacy and our own bodies long afterwards. See our dedicated page on sexual trauma.

Intimacy and relationships

Sexual difficulties rarely exist in isolation from a relationship. See our dedicated page on couples and intimacy therapy, covering mismatched libido, loss of connection, and rebuilding intimacy after infidelity, illness or a major life change.

Identity, behaviour and self-worth

Our sense of ourselves as sexual beings is closely tied to confidence, identity and self-worth. See our dedicated page on compulsive sexual behaviour and porn use, and speak to us about any other concern relating to sexual identity, shame or self-consciousness that isn't listed here. If it's affecting you, it's worth talking about.
