Jo Wiseman, Founder & Psychotherapist
Jo is a warm, curious and down-to-earth therapist offering a safe, non-judgemental space to explore whatever brings you here.
About Jo
Jo Wiseman is the founder of Charnwood Counselling, a BACP-registered psychotherapist, and the therapist behind Charnwood Intimacy. She's currently completing the CICS Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy, a two-year, COSRT and NCPS accredited programme delivered by the Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology (CICS), and is working towards full COSRT registration as a psychosexual and relationship therapist, the professional term for what many people search for as a sex therapist.
Jo's approach is pluralistic and integrative: rather than fitting every client into one model, she draws on a range of therapeutic approaches to suit what each person needs, while keeping the client and the relationship at the centre of the work. Her training places a strong emphasis on gender, sexual, relationship and cultural diversity (GSRD), which means Charnwood Intimacy is a genuinely inclusive space for people of any gender, sexuality, relationship structure, culture or background.
Jo understands that bringing sexual concerns to therapy takes real courage, and she brings the same warmth and respect to this work that clients already know from Charnwood Counselling.
Training and Supervision
As part of her CICS Diploma, Jo is required to complete a minimum of 150 hours of supervised clinical practice, working with the full range of sexual and relationship presentations, alongside her own 50 hours of personal therapy over the course of the two-year programme. In practice, this means every piece of work Jo does is closely supervised by an experienced psychosexual therapist, and it's part of why introductory rates apply during this period (see Pricing & Booking).
This will be explained clearly to every new client before their first session, so there are no surprises, and so you can make an informed choice about starting therapy with Jo at this stage of her training.
Registrations

- Student member, College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT)
- Studying towards the CICS Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy
Registration status is reviewed regularly as Jo's training progresses. If you have any questions about her current status, she's very happy to talk it through with you before your first session.
